Supreme Court issues order granting relief in Catholic Charities Bureau Inc. v. LIRC
Madison, Wisconsin - December 15, 2025
Today, the Wisconsin Supreme Court issued an order holding that the Catholic Charities Bureau and four of its sub-entities are operated primarily for religious purposes and are therefore exempt from making contributions to the state unemployment insurance system. The case, which was previously reviewed by the United States Supreme Court and remanded to the Wisconsin Supreme Court for further proceedings, is returned to the circuit court with instructions.
