Supreme Court appoints new Clerk of Supreme Court and Court of Appeals

Madison, Wisconsin - January 18, 2018

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has appointed Walworth County Clerk of Circuit Court Sheila T. Reiff as the next Clerk of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, Chief Justice Patience Drake Roggensack announced today.

Reiff, of Elkhorn, has served as Walworth County clerk of circuit court since 1995 and previously worked there as deputy clerk and as a court calendar clerk, beginning in 1980. She concurrently serves in the capacity of register in probate, probate registrar, probate commissioner and clerk of juvenile court.

“We look forward to the contributions Ms. Reiff will make to the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and the Wisconsin court system as a whole,” Roggensack said. “She brings with her a great deal of experience running a clerk of court office, as well as an in-depth understanding of court procedures and record handling.”

Reiff has served on several committees that provide input and guidance to the Director of State Courts and the Supreme Court, including Records Management, Bridging the Distance (video conferencing), CCAP (Consolidated Court Automation Programs) Steering, Making the Record, and the Committee to Improve Interpreting and Translation in the Wisconsin Courts.

Reiff will fill the post held by Diane M. Fremgen, who was previously appointed deputy director for court operations by Director of State Courts Randy R. Koschnick. Fremgen will remain serving as acting clerk of Supreme Court and Court of Appeals until Reiff starts her new role in coming weeks.

Fremgen has been clerk of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals since 2012. She previously served as the clerk of circuit court in Winnebago County for 15 years.
