For nearly two centuries, our courts have stood as a cornerstone of justice in Wisconsin. That commitment continues every day in courtrooms large and small, in high-profile cases that attract public attention and in quieter moments where someone finds fairness, resolution, or a sense of being heard. As I begin my service as Chief Justice, I am committed to ensuring that every person who interacts with our courts is treated with dignity, respect, and fairness.
Wisconsin's court system is powered by a team of dedicated public servants. Judges, clerks, court reporters, interpreters, security officers, and many others who work tirelessly to ensure that our courts remain open, accessible, and efficient. Much of their work happens behind the scenes, but it is essential to making justice possible for individuals and communities across our state.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court is the state's highest court and a court of last resort, but its responsibilities go beyond deciding legal cases. The Court oversees the administration of the statewide court system, helps shape the rules that govern legal practice, and supports initiatives that expand access to justice. Every decision we make and every initiative we support is guided by our responsibility to uphold the law and serve the public good.
Our Supreme Court Hearing Room, located in the East Wing of the State Capitol, is open to all. It is a space where legal arguments are presented, important questions are considered, and justice is pursued with care and deliberation. If you have the opportunity, I encourage you to attend a hearing in person. If not, you are always welcome to view our oral arguments and public rule hearings online.
