Juvenile cases are addressed in two different chapters of the Wisconsin statutes. Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 48 (external link), commonly referred to as the Children's Code, governs child in need of protection or services (CHIPS), termination of parental rights (TPR), guardianship, and adoption proceedings. Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 938 (external link), called the Juvenile Justice Code, covers juvenile in need of protection or services (JIPS), delinquency (crimes committed by a juvenile), and juvenile ordinance violation cases.
