Court invites comment on proposed rule change addressing recusal

SC hearing room

The Wisconsin Supreme Court is inviting public comment on a pending rule petition that would modify the state’s judicial code governing recusal.

Rule Petition 26-01 proposes changes to Supreme Court Rules related to when a judge or justice should step aside from a case. The Court is accepting written comments from attorneys, stakeholders, and members of the public, who may also request to testify at the public hearing scheduled for June 4, 2026.

The Court’s rule petition process is open to public participation and is designed to ensure transparency before any changes to court rules are made. Written comments and hearing testimony are reviewed by the Court as part of its consideration of the petition.

For Rule Petition 26-01, comments may be submitted through the Court’s rules page. Submission instructions and the full petition are available at: https://www.wicourts.gov/scrules/pending/2601.htm.
