He joins current commissioners Nancy Kopp, David Runke, and Mark Neuser. Before joining the Supreme Court in 2001, Rich had worked as a staff attorney for the Wisconsin Court of Appeals and in private practice in Minnesota for almost five years. Rich received her undergraduate degree in geology and geophysics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison before attending the University of Minnesota Law School (magna cum laude, 1994).

Supreme Court commissioners are lawyers who perform research, prepare memoranda, and make recommendations to the Court on various matters.
