On April 2, voters across Wisconsin will decide on several judicial candidates, including competitive races in ten circuit court branches. New judges will also be elected uncontested in three counties where the incumbent chose not to run for office. Winners of the Spring Election start their new six-year terms on the first of August.

The Wisconsin judicial system grew this month as Governor Tony Evers announced two appointments to the bench. With diverse backgrounds and extensive experience, Jane Bucher and Peggy Miller are poised to make valuable contributions to the administration of justice.
In honor of Women's History Month, exhibits honoring the legacy of former Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson are on display in the Capitol building rotunda and Supreme Court vestibule. The Justice for All: The Legacy of Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson exhibit aims to encourage public service and educate the public about the first woman justice in Wisconsin.
The Tailored Dispositional Orders Project, a joint initiative led by the Children’s Court Improvement Program (CCIP) and the Department of Children and Families (DCF), is expanding after a successful pilot run in three counties during 2021-2022. The project is now being implemented in counties statewide looking to improve their CHIPS and/or Youth Justice conditions.
The Wisconsin State Law Library has recently released its 2023 Annual Report. The report highlights the library's outreach efforts to connect with people from different parts of the state and beyond. The Wisconsin State Law Library is one of the oldest in the country, having originated in 1836, just a few years after the Library of Congress.
A number of justices, judges and state court staff are among panelists and presenters at the State Bar of Wisconsin’s 2023 Annual Meeting and Conference (AMC) from June 19-21 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and KI Center in Green Bay.
After almost eight years on the Racine County Branch 4 bench, Judge Mark Nielsen retired on January 1. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Nielsen returned to his native Racine after receiving his law degree from Harvard Law School.
