Judges from Wisconsin’s Fifth Judicial District met March 6 in Darlington to discuss the court system’s budget process and related administrative issues.
Director of State Courts Audrey Skwierawski and Legislative Liaison & Policy Initiatives Advisor Adam Plotkin led the discussion on the judicial branch budget. They outlined how the court system prepares its biennial budget request, reviewed the timeline for the upcoming cycle, and explained how proposals move through the court system’s internal process before being submitted. Judges asked questions throughout the presentation and shared perspectives on the needs they are seeing in their courtrooms and communities.
Karley Klein, chief legal counsel for the Office of the Director of State Courts, addressed the group on public records requests involving the courts. She reviewed the legal standards that guide judicial branch records, discussed common issues that judges encounter with court-related requests, and answered questions about how to respond to requests while protecting confidential information.
