State courts 2023-25 budget request submitted to Governor, Legislature

The Wisconsin Supreme Court submitted its 2023-25 biennial budget request to the Legislature and Governor on Oct. 7, 2022. The request includes major investments in four new circuit court judgeships that were previously authorized under 2019 Wisconsin Act 184; $4 million in additional information technology funding for cybersecurity infrastructure; digital audio recording equipment for taking the record; additional funding to expand administrative resources in the Court of Appeals; and for programs under the Director of State Courts.

The Governor is scheduled to introduce his budget in February, 2023, and the legislature is expected to deliberate during the Spring of 2023. Any funding adopted under the Court’s biennial budget request for the 2023-25 biennium would go into effect on July 1, 2023.

Copies of the court system budget requests – one for each level of the courts -- are posted on the state Department of Administration’s website.
