District Seven, CCAP partner on statewide financial training

Clerks of circuit court and court staff from across Wisconsin recently took part in a hands-on CCAP Financials training hosted in Crawford County through a collaboration between the Seventh Judicial Administrative District and CCAP.

The training grew out of requests from District Seven clerks for more in-person, hands-on instruction on CCAP financial applications. Originally developed around needs identified within the district, the session was later opened statewide through Zoom.

“Clerks have long advocated for hands-on, in-person training, particularly for CCAP financial applications, which can be complex and difficult to master through manuals alone,” District Court Administrator Anya Crossland said. “Drawing on the success of lab-style training offered by CCAP in the past, this session was designed as an opportunity to connect, learn, and share experiences.”

More than 80 participants took part, with about 30 attending in person and 52 joining through Zoom.

CCAP staff Amber Hill and Hayden Breene led the training. Topics ranged from debit payables and common adjustment scenarios to cleaning up trust reports, system and ePayment glitches, month-end processes, and upcoming CCAP3 financial updates.

The lab format gave participants an opportunity to work through examples alongside CCAP staff and other clerks rather than simply reviewing procedures in a traditional presentation. Smaller group discussions also allowed participants to ask more detailed questions and work through specific scenarios together.

“Networking is key,” CCAP District Advocate Sean Miller said. “Having an in-person, hands-on session allows people to learn from shared experiences and show each other, and the subject matter experts from CCAP, what they are seeing in real time.”

Miller said the goal was for participants to return to their counties with new approaches to financial work, along with stronger connections with colleagues they can turn to when similar questions arise.

Crawford County Clerk of Circuit Court Holly Tanner hosted the session. “The experience reinforced the value of bringing counties together to share knowledge, troubleshoot challenges, and learn from one another,” Tanner said.

Organizers are reviewing feedback from participants as they look at ways to build on the training and improve similar opportunities in the future.
