The Wisconsin Supreme Court has named Matt Goncher as its new marshal, effective April 6, 2026.
Goncher brings a background in law enforcement and court security to the role. He previously served 22 years as a deputy sheriff, peace officer, and later worked in federal court security operations, including assignments supporting the United States Marshals Service in Chicago and Madison. He also has extensive experience in explosive detection K-9 operations and security response in high-risk environments.
As Marshal, Goncher serves as the Court’s lead security officer, responsible for maintaining safety during court proceedings and supporting security operations for the Supreme Court and court system. The position plays a central role in coordinating responses to security concerns and threats.
Goncher will work closely with Deputy Marshal Ingrid Szocik and coordinate with the Wisconsin Capitol Police Court Protection Unit on court events, security planning, and threat response.
