Justice Chris Taylor
Justice Chris Taylor was elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court on April 7, 2026, and took office on August 1, 2026. Before her election to the Supreme Court, Justice Taylor served as a judge on the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, District IV, which includes 24 counties and is based in Madison. She was elected to the Court of Appeals in 2023.
Before serving on the Court of Appeals, Justice Taylor served as a Dane County Circuit Court judge. She was appointed to the circuit court in 2020 and elected in 2021. As a circuit court judge, she handled criminal, civil, and family cases.
Before becoming a judge, she served in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 2011 to 2020. During her legislative service, she authored more than 250 bills and resolutions. In 2013, she co-authored the first state law in the nation to require independent investigations of law enforcement-involved shootings.
Justice Taylor previously served as legal and policy director for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin from 2003 to 2011, specializing in constitutional rights and reproductive health policy. She began her legal career practicing law at firms in Milwaukee and Madison, primarily in family law.
Justice Taylor has served in a number of professional and court-related organizations, including the Inns of Court, the Judicial Publications Committee, and the Governor’s Domestic Violence Treatment and Intervention Subcommittee.
Justice Taylor received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1990 and her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1995.
Justice Taylor and her husband, Jim, have two sons. She loves cheering on her kids at sporting events, running through area parks, walking her dog, and listening to live music.
