ARPA funding to support Milwaukee County justice system recovery

Madison, Wisconsin - March 15, 2022

Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Annette Kingsland Ziegler and Director of State Courts Hon. Randy R. Koschnick today released the following statements regarding Gov. Tony Evers' announcement on the use of ARPA funds to support justice system recovery in Milwaukee County.

Statement of Chief Justice Annette Kingsland Ziegler
"I'd like to thank Governor Evers and Chief Judge Mary Triggiano. This funding will help the Milwaukee County justice system implement a broad-based plan to address a number of complex issues created by the pandemic. This is a great example of the different branches of government working together at the state and local level to address problems that none of us could address as effectively working alone."

Statement of Director of State Courts Randy R. Koschnick
"As we looked at ways to increase capacity for case processing in Milwaukee County, it became clear that all of our justice system partners also needed more capacity than was readily available. This includes prosecutors, state public defenders, security and other court staff who keep our courts functioning on a daily basis. ARPA funding will make a more strategic and comprehensive approach possible."
