Director of state courts takes on new career challenge

Madison, Wisconsin - July 25, 2014

After 22 years of service to the Wisconsin court system, Director of State Courts A. John Voelker has accepted a job as deputy secretary of the state Department of Employee Trust Funds.

Voelker has been director of state courts since 2003. Prior to that, he served as an executive assistant to Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson and as a senior policy analyst in the Office of Court Operations. His last day with the court system is July 25; he starts his new position July 28.

"Along with the entire Wisconsin court system, I appreciate the work John has done over the years, and the dedication he showed to the judges and employees of the judiciary. He will be missed," Abrahamson said.

Voelker said he will miss working with judges, court staff and other court-related groups, but he is looking forward to a new challenge.

"I am excited about the opportunity to be part of Secretary (Bob) Conlin's executive team at the Department of Employee Trust Funds and to contribute to an organization that is recognized as a leader among public employee benefit systems. I am also thankful that for the past 22 years I have had the privilege to work alongside many dedicated and talented judges and court staff," Voelker said.
